Here’s my basic recipe for making overnight oats, I usually double or triple it and make it in a large container to use during the week as my breakfast or go-to power snack!

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats (old-fashioned oats, I use Trader Joes)
  • 1/2 cup milk (dairy milk, almond milk, oat milk, etc.)
  • 1/2 cup yogurt (Plain Greek yogurt or yogurt of choice)
  • Sweetener (such as honey, maple syrup, etc to taste
  • Optional: Add-ins such as fresh fruits, dried fruits, nuts, seeds, nut butter, spices (cinnamon, vanilla extract), and flavor extracts.

Instructions:

  1. In a container or jar with a tight-fitting lid, combine the rolled oats, milk, and yogurt. You can adjust the ratios of milk and yogurt based on your desired consistency and taste preferences. If you prefer a thicker consistency, use less milk.
  2. Add your chosen sweetener to the mixture. The amount will depend on your taste preferences. Start with a small amount and adjust as needed. Remember that you can always add more sweetness later, so it’s best to start with less.
  3. Stir the mixture well until the oats are fully coated with the liquid and the sweetener is evenly distributed.
  4. If desired, add in your favorite mix-ins. I typically add these later. except for the chia seeds and nut butter if I decide to add those in…but you can add your choices to the mix beforehand if that is going to make it easier in the morning! Chopped fresh fruits, berries, sliced bananas, raisins, dried cranberries, nuts, seeds, and nut butter are great options. You can get creative with different combinations.
  5. Once all the ingredients are mixed, seal the container with the lid and refrigerate overnight, or for at least 4-6 hours. This allows the oats to absorb the liquid and soften.
  6. In the morning, give the overnight oats a good stir to incorporate any settled ingredients and to achieve a creamy consistency. If the mixture is too thick, you can add a splash of milk to reach your desired texture.
  7. Optionally, you can top your overnight oats with additional fruits, nuts, seeds, or a drizzle of honey or maple syrup before enjoying.
  8. Enjoy your delicious and ready-to-eat overnight oats!

Feel free to customize this basic recipe according to your preferences. You can adjust the quantities for meal planning ease, types of milk and yogurt, and mix-ins to create a variety of flavors and textures. Overnight oats are versatile, and you can experiment with different combinations to find your favorite version. Enjoy!
